A former member of the long-running KBS variety program "2 Days 1 Night" recently returned to the show. Jung Joon Young rejoined his fellow cast members after his short hiatus following a sexual assault controversy.
Jung took a break from the South Korean entertainment industry in September 2016 and even gave up his spot on the KBS travel variety show "2 Days 1 Night," as well as other programs. Following the singer's acquittal on a sexual assault charge raised by his former girlfriend, Jung traveled to France to focus on his new album.
However, the musician recently went back home to Korea and even reprised his role as a "2 Days 1 Night" cast member. A source from the KBS show told Korean news outlet Osen that Jung already started filming activities with Cha Tae Hyun, Kim Jong Min, Defconn, Kim Joon Ho and Yoon Shi Yoon on Jan. 6, Friday.
The five members of the KBS variety show even welcomed Jung "warmly," according to the source. With the said episode marking the singer's first project after his hiatus, Jung promised that he will do his best not to disappoint the viewers.
The upcoming episode of the KBS variety will also serve as the first time that the show will again have six cast members. Despite Jung's break, the production team did not look for another celebrity to replace the singer.
Meanwhile, KBS showrunners previously announced their plans to have Jung return to the show. Producers told local reporters how the production team and cast members started discussing the musician's comeback shortly after he was acquitted from sexual assault claims, All Kpop quoted the showrunners as saying.
Producers also conveyed their appreciation for the viewers' support following Jung's controversy. Showrunners added, "'1 Night 2 Days' will work even harder from now on to create a variety show that can give laughter to the viewers."
Viewers can look forward to seeing Jung in the upcoming "2 Days 1 Night" episode to be aired on Jan. 15, Sunday, on KBS. Watch a clip from the previous episode below:
