One of the biggest changes in "Supergirl" Season 2 was the addition of Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent aka Superman. The character was well received and is one of the pivotal characters in the lore of DC comic books but the CW network has confirmed there are no plans to launch a new spin-off series.

Hoechlin's portrayal was particularly praised due to how jovial it was in comparison to the dark and brooding version seen in the DCEU films such as "Man of Steel" and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." In the movies, the character of Superman is played by Henry Cavill.

"Tyler did a great job," CW President Mark Pedowitz explained during the recent TV Critics Association press panel and quotedby Entertainment Weekly. "There's no plan to do a series. There are no plans at the moment for him to return to Supergirl. If they wish to have him return, we'd love to have him."

There is also the issue of a conflict of interests given that Superman is already being prominently featured in the film universe. However, the film studios have ignored this problem and continued to cast characters such as the Flash and Deadshot even if they have already appeared in CW television shows.

When asked if this was why the television network was hesitant on moving forward with a Superman-centric show, Pedowitz dodged the question. He merely explained he could not answer the issue since there have been no discussions yet about a spin-off.

The CW would also have to deal with their fully loaded slate of superhero shows, Screen Rant reported. The network already has "Arrow," "The Flash," "Legends of Tomorrow" and "Supergirl." Their animated corner, CW Seed, is also filled with shows. This tight schedule would make it difficult to squeeze in another show for a character as important as Superman.

Executive producer Greg Berlanti was a little more positive and did state that if the opportunity was available sometime in the future they may grab it and launch a "Superman" series. Nothing was concrete at the moment however.

Superman can still be viewed in the second season of "Supergirl." The series is on its midseason break and will return on Jan. 23. The official trailer for the midseason premiere can be viewed below:
