The mid-season finale of "Arrow" Season 5 broke a lot of hearts and dealt a particularly massive blow on Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak. As the show returns to The CW, Team Arrow will suffer the consequences of this event and might drive Felicity into a very dark path.

Oliver mistakenly shoots down Felicity's new boyfriend Billy when he was tracking down Prometheus. Oliver was tricked into thinking that he was aiming his arrow at a man he believed to be Prometheus. It turned out that his target was Billy. His death leaves a deep scar on Felicity and will have a serious impact on the character's development as the show moves forward.

"One thing Felicity is not going to do, I can tell you for sure, is blame Oliver. She recognizes the manipulations that have led to this situation," Wendy Mericle told TVLine. "Her heart is broken in that last moment for Oliver and for Malone and for herself."

While Felicity will not harbor any ill feelings toward Oliver, Billy's death will push Felicity into undergoing a drastic change. Moreover, she is expected to embark on a darker, dangerous path.

It is speculated that Felicity will focus all of her anger and frustrations on finding Prometheus and ending his life. Her dangerously ambitious solo mission will make her more detached from Team Arrow. She might also meet people from her past who will help her with her new agenda.

"It's the sum of a bunch of stuff, and Billy was sort of the final straw.... Felicity's been living in this darker world for the last four-plus years now and one of the things we're exploring is how much what Oliver and Diggle and Roy and Laurel have been doing as vigilantes affected her and affected her way of thinking about things," executive producer Marc Guggenheim told Collider.

One of theories being suggested is that Felicity might follow her father's footsteps, who was known as the hacker named The Calculator. Using her skills with technology, Felicity is speculated to wipe out Star City of evil deed as a vigilante.
