Winter is a perfect time of the year when all you would want to do is to curl up on the couch and eat your favorite comfort because you think that cold-weather food is all about mac and cheese, but no. Your healthy diet does not have to stop because it is winter.

There are a plethora of options when it comes to winter food that will still help you stay in shape and help you lose weight. There is a plenty of wintry foods you can add to your menu this month while making sure you maintain your figure. Watch your pounds drop off with these foods.

1. Citrus

According to SELF, citrus fruits are very low in calories which is why they are ideal for weight loss while they add sweetness to your savory meals. They are also loaded with Vitamin C which makes them a very healthy add ons to your salads or smoothie bowl.

2. Pomegranates

Pomegranates which are in season until mid-January are a great source of fiber and are low in calories. This means that eating these can make you full much longer and you will not feel constantly craving for food. They are also rich in potassium so they are a perfect snack before or after your work out session.

3. Passion Fruit

These fruits are usually in season in January and February and are perfect add on to your smoothie. They are rich in Vitamin C and contains only 17 calories.

4. Blood oranges

According to Shape, blood oranges are rich in antioxidants and can help aid in weight loss. An Italian study suggests that animal subjects who were given a daily dose of blood oranges lost up to 10 percent of their body weight in just a matter of three months. Both their juice and fiber rich blood are very effective in weight loss.

5. Sunflower seeds

These seeds, aside from making a great snack, can be an ideal alternative for shedding off some ounds because they can suppress your appetite and can be a good source of magnesium, selenium and Vitamin E.
