Everton is on a three-game unbeaten run and has been undefeated in four of their last five games. They are currently settled in the seventh spot of the English top flight table, 11 points behind fifth-running team Arsenal who presently holds the Europa League qualifying berth for next season.

Everton is coming off a crushing 3-0 victory over middling team Southampton at the Goodison Park on Jan. 2, as per Goal.

After a goalless first half of action, head coach Ronald Koeman's side suddenly woke up in the second half, scoring three goals in the last 17 minutes to pull off the lopsided win.

Ecuadorian forward Enner Valencia finally broke the game's deadlock in the 73rd minute with a low shot from four yards after Romelu Lukaku's shot was blocked by Saints keeper Fraser Forster.

Defender Leighton Baines then doubled the lead in the 81st minute with a successful penalty kick off a foul by Japanese center back Maya Yoshida on Valencia.

Lukaku completed the three-goal haul with a strike in the 89th minute coming off an assist by Valencia.

Meanwhile, Manchester City successfully bounced back from their loss to Liverpool in the previous round by nipping newly-promoted side Burnley, 2-1, at the Etihad also on Jan. 2, the Mirror reported.

Head coach Pep Guardiola's squad got an early bad break when midfielder Fernandinho was sent off in the 32nd minute following a two-footed tackle on Burnley midfielder Johann Berg Gudmundsson.

However, a 10-man City side was still able to score the first two goals of the contest, courtesy of Gael Clichy and Sergio Agüero in the 58th and 62nd minutes.

Burnley netted a consolation in the 70th with a goal by defender Ben Mee but was unable to find the equalizer as time expired.
