The new trailer for "Prison Break" Season 5 shows that Michael Scofield is officially back from the dead, but is now returning to prison in a different part of the world. The series is set to return this year after being on hiatus for eight years.

Played by Wentworth Miller, Scofield was presumed to be dead in Season 4 finale. Following the announcement in 2016 that the series will return for a limited-episode run this April, fans wondered how the character managed to be alive after the massive explosion in Season 4 finale.

While fans thought that Scofield died when the series ended in 2009, the new trailer for the upcoming season reveals that Scofield is alive but is now incarcerated somewhere in the Middle East. Scofield's current prison is extra different from the previous prisons he had been in, so it is going to be extra difficult for him to plan another breakout, according to Comicbook.

The cast and creators of the series who attended the 2017 Television Critics' Association (TCA) press tour told E! Online that the mystery of Scofield being able to survive is the central story of Season 5. Series creator Paul T. Ching told the publication, "Michael doesn't just come out of the gates the noble hero. The question is, who is this guy? Has he been compromised? Is he even Michael? Was he the Michael that we knew all along? And that's one of the central things that runs through the course of the season, and that's fun when your protagonist may not even be a good guy."

Cheuring described the brand new season as a constant thriller, cliffhanger and revelation, especially when the whole gang finally learns that Scofield is actually alive. According to him, everyone will get back together to help him break out of prison again, just as they did in the previous seasons.

Asked how Michael was able to survive the explosion, the series creator said the story was worth about 2500 years of literature. "Prison Break" Season 5 is set to premiere on April 4 on FOX.
