The BBC has not made any official announcements about the return date for "Sherlock" Season 5, episode 1. But, according to Radio Times, a source has confirmed that episode 1 of "Sherlock" Season 5 is not coming next January.

Showrunner Steven Moffat spoke with Radio Times and shared they don't know about the future.

"Right at this moment, we really don't know about the future. Mark [Gatiss] and I have to have a long chat, possibly on a train, about what we'd actually do with another run. We love the show very much, and that means we don't want to let go of it before we have to," Moffat said.

However, back in July 2016, Moffat hinted that "Sherlock Season 4 could be the last one.

"I don't know how long we can keep it going. I'm personally willing but I'm hardly the main draw. I would be moderately surprised if this was the last time we ever made this show. But it absolutely could be," Moffat stated via Telegraph.

"Sherlock" Season 4 was commissioned back in Oct. 2013 and the official announcement was made in July 2014. The filming began in April 2016 and episode 1 premiered in Jan. 2017.

We will have to wait for "Sherlock" Season 5, episode 1 release date as it will take time.

"Sherlock" Season 4, episode 3 finale airs Sunday, Jan. 15. Stay tuned for more updates.
