Rumors have it that Microsoft will introduce the Surface Pro 5 in February and via the Barcelona MWC 2017 trade show with the actual release date possibly to follow in the immediate weeks. A new indicator that such scenario could be playing out soon is the official discount of up to 20 percent given to the Surface Pro 5.

As pointed to by GSM Arena, the SP4 in Microsoft's online store in the United States is now only $899, down from the original sticker price of $999. The deal is specifically for the Pro 4 with a 12.3-inch PixelSense touchscreen display and powered by Intel's Core i5 chip with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal memory.

Also part of the package is the Surface Pen stylus with Microsoft taking note that the unit in question is fully compatible with Surface Dial. The same report indicated that the promo is currently live and will remain so until January 28.

And students planning to take advantage of this Microsoft offering are in luck as another 10 percent less await them. The same extra discount is extended as well to parents and faculty members but as Microsoft has made clear, would-be buyers in the mentioned category will not be permitted to combine the deal with other discounts on the table.

This new Surface Pro 4 deal somehow hints that Microsoft is trying to clear existing stocks of the Windows 10-powered device, presumably to make way for fresh shipments to come in. And that would be the Surface Pro 5 that according to the latest reports from Asia will get unpacked boasting of an Ultra HD display or the native ability to render in 4K screen resolution.

And like its immediate predecessor, the SP5 will get its version of the Surface Pen, which is rumored to gain magnetic charging capability. Most likely serving as the Pro 5 main engine is Intel's 7th-generation Kaby Lake processing chip that likely will tap into RAM provision that is twice the size of the Surface Pro 4.

As indicated above, Microsoft is said to showcase the Surface Pro 5 soon using the upcoming MWC 2017 in Europe. That could mean that the device will be outed as early as February 26 or the same day that Barcelona event will start.

However, the actual Surface Pro 5 release date is only likely to happen weeks after or in March as Microsoft is thought to deploy first the Windows 10 Creators (Redstone 2) Update before letting out the refresh of its 2-in-1 flagship device.
