"The Originals" Season 4, episode 1 will kick off with a five-year time-jump. This means that a lot of things have changed in the lives of Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin), Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies).
While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Julie Plec was asked if one of the new things that happened would have to do with Hayley finding a new love interest.
Plec said that this is impossibility because Hayley was tasked as the person to reunite the Original family. This means that even with the time-jump, she spent a lot of time with the Mikaelson brothers.
"When we come back, obviously all of our heroes are still down. In fact, it's Hayley's role to figure out a way to deliver on her promise to rescue them. So when that day comes, and Elijah does return to the fold, he is thrown back into a relationship that he is absent from, a brother that has been captive and had god knows what done to him over the last half a decade, and a crumbling Mikaelson dynasty in New Orleans that he feels very compelled to rebuild," she said.
Meanwhile, The CW already renewed some of its shows for another season. This includes "The Flash," "Arrow," "Jane the Virgin" and "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend." However, "The Originals" Season 5 did not make the cut. Before leaving The CW, executive producer Michael Narducci explained that "The Originals" has not yet been renewed for Season 5 because Season 4 has not yet even premiered.
However, Narducci's decision to suddenly leave "The Originals" in the hands of Plec so he could take advantage of an opportunity with ABC, just heightened speculations that "The Vampire Diaries" spinoff will be cancelled at the end of Season 4.
While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Plec seemed more than willing to take on Narducci's responsibilities. "Mike got an opportunity he could not pass up. He has been a brilliant partner and friend and I am going to miss him desperately," she said.
"The Originals" Season 4, episode 1 will air on The CW on March 17 at 9 p.m. EST.
