Shanghai Disneyland has been operating for seven months now with the theme park having welcomed about 6 million visitors. Unfortunately, some of the park visitors’ behavior remain uncivilized.

Among the uncivilized behavior shown by some Shanghai Disneyland visitors is the stealing of fake candies in a bowl held by a statue of Donald Duck. Shanghaiist reported that photos of the disappearing fake candies became viral on Weibo, the most popular social media site in China.

Missing Fake Candies

In the multiple images of Donald Duck’s candy basket, posted to show a time lapse, from a full basket, later photos show a half basket until only a few pieces remain. However, there is no real candy inside the basket. One Weibo user commented that even if the candies would contain feces, people would still get some because they see it as a freebie.

The unruly behavior of Chinese visitors, which had been reported as early as the opening of the theme park, has led one Weibo user to comment, “Mainland China just isn’t suitable for a Disneyland.” Previous reports say that some of the children with their parents either urinated or defecated in the shrubs of the newly opened Shanghai Disneyland in mid-June.

Satisfied Visitors

Despite the report of disgusting behavior by some Chinese visitors, a third-party survey said 80 percent of Shanghai Disneyland visitors were “very satisfied” or “satisfied” with their experience in the park. As of end of 2016, the theme part accepted 5.6 million visitors, according to Fan Xiping, chairman of the Shanghai Shendi Group, the Chinese partner of Disney in running the park.

The park’s Shanghai Disneyland Hotel and Toy Story Hotel enjoyed 90 percent occupancy rates. Fan Xiping added that the Mandarin production of “The Lion King” was done more than 220 times.
