President Xi Jinping is in Davos, Switzerland, to attend the World Economic Forum. For the first time, the Chinese president addressed the forum and considered the event as a "weather vane" for the world's economy.
In a meeting with WEF founder and executive chairman Klaus Schwab, the Chinese president said that the forum's theme is key to working out the issues of the world's economy.
This year's forum has the theme "Responsive and Responsible Leadership."
"The theme sticks to the current global situation and identifies the key to getting out of troubles," Xi said.
Xi also said that China and the leaders of the world should "send positive signals together and boost confidence in the process of economic globalization."
Both world leaders are optimistic that the results of the forum will be "rosy," and this is proven by the increasing membership of the forum.
Xi and Schwab signed a memorandum of understanding between China's National Reform and Development Commission and the WEF after their meeting.
After the president's attendance at the forum, he will also travel to Lausanne and Geneva to visit the International Olympic Committee, the World Health Organization, and the UN Office at Geneva.
In his speech delivered to mark the opening of the forum, Xi's thought-provoking remarks received international acclaim. He called for cooperation and for making history as a shared vision.
He said, "World history shows that the road of human civilization has never been a smooth one and that mankind has made progress by surmounting difficulties."
The Chinese president was direct in pointing out "when encountering difficulties, we should not complain about ourselves, blame others, lose confidence or run away from responsibilities."
"History is created by the brave. Let us boost confidence, take actions and march arm-in-arm toward a bright future," he added.
