Entertainment giant Warner Bros. is currently having negotiations with its Japanese counterparts in snagging the rights to do an American retelling of the famed Manga and anime series. If everything falls into place, the project will be helmed by David Heyman whose most recent work was the "Harry Potter" prequel "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," Deadline has learned.

It can be recalled that Warner also attempted to release a U.S.-made version of an equally famed anime film - "Akira." Nevertheless, the said endeavor wasted away for several years until nothing was heard from it ever since.

Japanese studio Toho Pictures was the first one to shell out a movie adaptation of the franchise. It was a two-part film series that were both released in 2015 with a month's gap in between releases. The first installment went on becoming the seventh highest-grossing film in Japan during that year with over $25 million under its belt. However, the second half of it flopped at the box office only bagging a little over than $13 million, MovieWeb reported.

Meanwhile, the sophomore season of its widely followed anime series is just a few months away as it will premiere in sometime in April. A teaser trailer has been released featuring what to expect from the second installment of the show. As per the video, fans will finally see new behemoths such as Ymir's demonlike titan form and  Zeke Yeager's Beast titan.
