Facebook is giving an all new messaging experience to the desktop users by integrating the Messenger app into its desktop version. The social media giant is offering users to access to more customization options on its Messenger web interface.

Messenger was introduced by Facebook two years ago and was exclusively available on smartphones. Recently, the social media giant has changed the way users read private messages. The Facebook interface has been upgraded and the previous inbox icon has been replaced with the Messenger icon at the top of the screen.

At the left side of the interface read "Messenger" above the list of the recent friends' chats. The three-paned interface will show the recent chat session. The right-hand side of the interface displays the name of your friend in the selected chat and it provides access to other Messenger features. The buttons on the top-right of the screen display to initiate a call and video call.

The updated version of desktop Messenger features includes built-in emoji stickers and GIF buttons. It also offers more specialized commands like games and online payment. Users can also search the conversation, edit nicknames and change the chat background color. It also offers mute notifications and link to the person's profile for easy access.

Facebook did not make an official announcement about the change. The change has been spotted by a number of users in multiple markets which hinted it was more than a small-scale test, Tech Crunch reported.

Several users are requesting the old "message inbox" be returned, just like the previous upgrades showcased by Facebook at the early stage. The main requests of users are to change the formatting of paragraphs in the conversation threads, improve filter messages, and update features on photo sharing and consumption, ET Telecom News reported.

"We basically want to satisfy the ask of harmonizing the user experience and the capabilities of Messenger across all platforms," Messenger head David Marcus stated upon acknowledging the criticisms. He added that the Messenger team will consider implementing solutions to address the main user complaints about the desktop Messenger.
