The Carmelo Anthony saga continues to hog the headlines of the NBA trade rumors.
The nearly improbable scenario of Carmelo Anthony waiving his no-trade clause could happen, and if rumors hold true, he might even move to a city that he despises.
Carmelo Anthonyhas mentioned a scenario where he would agree to leave the Big Apple as he stated in an exclusive Newsday interview.
"I think it will be more on the front office," Anthony told Newsday this week. "I have the power, but still I would talk to them. We would be in communication if they feel like they want to go in a different direction, they want to start rebuilding for the future. If they tell me they want to scrap this whole thing, yeah, I have to consider it."
Based on the connection between Charley Rosen and Phil Jackson, the stand of their team president may have already been known. Jackson met with Carmelo and the details of the meeting were scarce save for Jackson allegedly asking Melo if he still wanted to be a Knick and the latter answering "yes."
However, based on this interview, it could all change.
The question would be just how much. There were reports that Melo had narrowed down his choice of teams to two: LA Clippers and Cleveland Cavaliers where two of his close friends, Chris Paul and LeBron James respectively, are playing.
The problem is, both those teams do not have the cap space or the assets to move in order to provide proper compensation for a player of Carmelo's caliber. There is one team that would need him and has more than enough to pay the price.
According to Marc Berman of the NY Post, the Boston Celtics would be the best destination. Danny Ainge has mentioned that his team needs a go-to scorer and they also have pieces that the Knicks need.
"Boston has a couple of expiring contracts and two juicy first-round picks from the Nets from which to choose. Plus, the Celtics possess defensive forward Jae Crowder, whom Jackson craves after passing on him in the Tyson Chandler-to-Dallas deal."
If Carmelo would agree to get Boston-bound, the deal would not be difficult to make, unlike the cap space magic and complications for the Cavs or Clippers. But it's all up to Anthony, no matter how much he denies.
