The world has yet to see a Miss Slovenia crowned as Miss Universe. That may change if Lucija Potočnik , 25, becomes Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach's successor.
The only Miss Slovenia contestant to place at Miss Universe is Tjaša Kokalj. She reached Top 15 at Miss Universe 2007.
On June 24, 2016, Potočnik was crowned Miss Universe Slovenia 2016 at Habakuk Hotel Congress Center in Maribor. With a master's degree in education from the University of Maribor, she aspires to become a primary teacher.
Potocnik stands 5' 8" used to teach at a modelling school. Aside from modelling, she also loves swimming and she volunteers with an organization that offers vacations to poor children.
For Miss Universe fan Jil Lasaca, a physical therapist based in Dallas, Texas, Potocnik is one of the top contenders of Miss Universe 2016. The fan added that Miss USA Deshauna Barber, Miss Russia Yuliana Korolkova, Miss Mexico Kristal Silva, Miss Ukraine Alena Spodynyuk, Miss China Li Zhenying, Miss Indonesia Kezia Warouw, Miss Thailand Chalita Suansane, Miss Venezuela Mariam Habach, Miss Philippines Maxine Medina and Miss Brazil Raissa Santana are the best candidates.
"Lots of beautiful women, tough choices," Business Mirror quoted Lasaca as saying. She also named Miss Canada Siera Bearchell, Miss Colombia Andrea Tovar, Miss Australia Caris Tiivel and Miss Puerto Rico Brenda Jiménez as her favorite candidates.
On Jan. 18, Potocnik, Bearchell, Tovar, Tiivel and Jimenez were among the Miss Universe 2016 candidates who visited Baguio City, Philippines. They met with distinguished people of the city during a dinner event attended by Wurtzbach and hosted by Miss Universe 20122 third runner-up Shamcey Supsup at Cordillera Convention Hall, Baguio Country Club.
Wurtzbach is set to crown her successor at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila. During the coronation night, Potočnik will wear a dress made of silk and Idrija lace designed by Stanko Blatnik, RTV Slovenia has learned.
