A recent listing on Best Buy Canada teased that the Nintendo Switch was going to get "Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition" instead of the original version of the game, which hinted at possible mod support. However, this has since been debunked and the listing has been altered.

Best Buy further clarified that the listing was an error, Game Rant reported. This does not rule out that the Switch port may be based on the "Special Edition" or that it will not feature mod support. Bethesda has been reached out for an official statement but has not yet responded.

The new listing on the Best Buy Canada page now labels the game simply as "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" for the Switch. Other marketing materials for the Switch port do not indicate it will be the "Special Edition," which comes with mod support, Informed Pixel reported.

Mod support has been common for desktop PCs for years but is relatively new for consoles. Bethesda's other title, "Fallout 4," introduced mod support for the Xbox One and PS4 but Sony restricted the latter to only use internal assets for its mods.

"Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition" added multiple new features beyond just mod support. It featured higher end graphics, improved textures, HDR support, 4K support and smoother framerates. The game was still met with mixed reactions from fans and critics due to numerous bugs and glitches that were addressed in later patches.

Mod support for the Nintendo Switch is also not widely expected. Nintendo has not explored the online gaming landscape as much as Sony and Microsoft does, where games like "Overwatch" and "Halo 5: Guardians" have excelled.

The Nintendo Switch is also not well built for full mod support. The unit comes with only 32 GB built-in space and using a microSD card only expands the storage space up to 2 TB. Games like "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" consume nearly 20 GB of space and this is without mods.

The Switch will release on March 3 while its port of "Skyrim" will release in the Fall. The trailer for the Nintendo Switch, which showcases gameplay footage of  "Skyrim" running on the system, can be viewed below:
