Bernard will be back in the next season of "Westworld," as confirmed by actor Jeffrey Wright. Before Wright confirmed the news with Rotten Tomatoes, "Westworld" director Jonathan Nolan had already hinted the return of the character in a separate interview.

Another character who is expected to return next season is Anthony Hopkins' character, Robert Ford. It can be recalled that in the Season 1 finale, Robert Ford died after being shot by Dolores. Even after his apparent death, however, his voice was still heard in the park. This has led to speculations that the character might be back in Season 2.

As previously reported by The Independent, Robert Ford's return might happen in the upcoming season but he may no longer be himself, but a robotic version of the character that could have been created by the real Robert Ford to guard himself from Dolores. The handshake between Arnold and Robert in the previous season also indicated the possibility of his return.

In a previous interview with Entertainment Weekly, Nolan also hinted that Season 2 might feature a flashback story. He said, "Working with Anthony Hopkins on this season of TV has been one of the greatest pleasures and privileges for Lisa and I in our careers. It's been an incredible experience, and we'll see where our story takes us."

Nolan also noted that they had an amazing season with Hopkins and would love working with him again. According to him, as far as the show is concerned, they had already established a more advanced ruleset when it comes to the death and resurrection of the characters in the series. While he said that fans should "assume nothing," the events in the Season 1 finale still could not stop fans from hoping that he would be back.

Meanwhile, Nolan confirmed that the new season would not be back soon. Recently, he shared the complexity of trying to pen and produce the series at the same time and noted that considering their schedules, the 2018 target premiere date is not that bad after all.

HBO officially announced the renewal of the series in November 2016. "Westworld" Season 2 is expected to return in 2018.
