Peter Jackson's film adaptation of Philip Reeves' sci-fi novel - "Mortal Engines" has tapped actors Robbie Sheehan from "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones" and Ronan Raftery from "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them." As of late, it is still undisclosed as to who will they portray in the project that is expected to commence production this 2017.

Albeit the scarcity of details, it is believed that Sheehan will be playing lead while Raftery landed a supporting role. The film will be a collaboration between Media Rights Capital and Universal Pictures with the latter to play as its film distributor, Variety has learned.  

Back in December 2009, Jackson hinted about directing a film based on the aforementioned book series. Such plan came to fruition in October 2016 as the acclaimed director announced that WingNut films has started the initial work on the film project with Christian Rivers at the helm.  

Moreover, producer Deborah Forte will take charge of the film's North American arm whilst Amanda Walker and Zane Weiner were tapped to lead its New Zealand production team. Filming will officially commence in March with an initial release date slated on December 14, 2018.  

No other films were known to be released during that period as of late. However, James Cameron's sequel to his 2009 top grosser - "Avatar" is slated to have a Holidays 2018 playdate, though it is speculated to be delayed yet again, according to MovieWeb.  

Published in 2001, the first book of the quartet novel tackles a post-apocalyptic depiction of the City of London that is converted into a moving fortress in hopes to survive in a world almost depleted of its resources. The story follows two unlikely protagonists that teamed up to change the course of their gloomy fate.
