In retrospect, Hero 3 was launched in 2012 followed by Hero 4 in 2016. Since Hero 5 was launched in 2016, Hero 6 is expected to be launched in 2018 in consonance with the GoPro launching tradition. However, after the Karma drone fiasco, it seems like tradition will be set aside by the company.

GoPro launched in 2016 their Karma drone following a teaser campaign that spanned for many months. However, after the first batch has been delivered to customers, the company found out a major glitch to their device. Karma had the propensity to randomly lose power during use, according to GSM Arena.

As a result, the $799 drone without camera or $1,099 with a camera were recalled from the market. Such issues, then resulted to a $116 million loss in the company's last earnings report. That is why the company is so eager to bounce back after their great loss, hoping that GoPro Hero 6 will make a huge difference.

Apart from the Hero 6 upcoming release, Woodman also highlighted the potential company immersion to drones, stabilization, and virtual reality projects. Another update may also include the company's video-editing apps, as part of Woodman's plan to prioritize a simpler storytelling process.

With the release of GoPro Hero 6, and other potential new avenues for updates and production, the company hopes to win back consumers trust to their product. The upcoming release aims to ward off the growing influence of a much budget-friendly versions of action cameras, like the Yi camera.
