The Super Bowl LI trailer for "Transformers: The Last Knight" has been released online. While short, the trailer teases one of the film's key plot points and hints at Optimus Prime turning against his own allies, the Autobots.

Sir Anthony Hopkins is shown in the teaser and he will portray a character named Sir Edmund Burton. The exact nature of this character is still unknown but it is widely speculated to be connected to the lore of King Arthur and Merlin, both of whom will appear in the movie.

Hopkins narrates during the first half of the trailer. During his voice-over it is indicated that his character knows why the Transformers keep on coming back to Earth, even back during the Middle Ages.

Mark Wahlberg is also reprising his role from the previous film, Collider reported. His daughter, who was played by Nicola Peltz, is not present in the film. Instead, the fifth film will introduce a new female lead with Isabela Moner as Izabella, an orphan whose only friend is a Transformer known as Sqweeks.

However, the second half of the trailer focuses on Optimus Prime. A mysterious voice speaks to Optimus and he addresses it as their creator. Following this exchange, Optimus is shown fighting Bumblebee.

It is still unclear if Optimus is willingly fighting his ally or if he has undergone some sort of reprogramming or mind control. Bumblebee is shown fighting with full force, slamming Optimus down. Optimus himself is shown fighting with both a shield and sword.

The film will also involve scenes depicting Nazi Germany and World War II but these portions of the film are not present in the trailer. The studios did receive criticism last year when the production altered the birthplace of former UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill into a Nazi base, Variety reported.

"Transformers: The Last Knight" will release this June 23. The Super Bowl LI trailer can be viewed below:
