Author George R. R. Martin has confirmed that he is not planning to release any more sample chapters of the much-anticipated book "Winds of Winter." Hence, speculations are rife that he may be near to finish writing the book.

In a comment posted on his journal, Not a Blog, Martin clarified that he will read previously released sample chapters at the upcoming conventions. He said that he will not release any new chapters because he has already shared a number of parts of the much-delayed book, which have been followed all over the world.

Martin added that there comes a point when he is simply putting too much of the book out there. He pointed out that it was not such a problem before the internet era.

"But now everything I read gets transcribed and posted and leaked all over the world," Martin wrote. The acclaimed author has released 11 sample chapters.

The first sample chapter of "Winds of Winter" was based on Theon Greyjoy and it was released in 2011. It was followed by a chapter on Arianne Martell in 2012. A chapter on Barristan Selmy was released a year later.

In 2014, Martin generously released two chapters based on Tyrion Lannister and Arya Stark. Whereas in 2015, he just released one chapter on Sansa Stark followed by a second chapter on Martell in 2016.

Besides these sample chapters, Martin also read a few chapters at his numerous public appearances. He read a chapter on Victarion Greyjoy at the TIFF Bell Lightbox event in 2012, followed by a chapter on Lannister at the Olympus Eastercon.

At the Boskone event in 2013, Martin read another chapter on Selmy. The last chapter that he read to the public was at the Balticon event in 2016, where he regaled the audience with a excerpt on Aeron Damphair, according to Reddit.

Meanwhile, the "Winds of Winter" spoilers indicate that the book is expected to largely focus on the events in Westeros and numerous key characters are going to be killed off. Westeros may also be burned to the ground if the mad genes of the Mother of Dragons surface in her personality.
