The said Nougat update was released first on the Moto Z Droid and Z Droid Force, which are recognized as Verizon-exclusive models of the Moto Z, in November last year. The delayed release of the Android 7.0 Nougat update made its way after months on the unlocked Moto Z models in the United States.

According to the official changelog of the Nougat update, the unlocked Moto Z will now experience several enhancements on the phone's OS, such as new multitasking features, efficient notification controls, and improved Doze and data saving features.

One of the expected features in the Nougat update is the multitasking mode where users can quickly switch between apps by double tapping on the overview/recent apps button. Users can only switch between two most recently used apps.

The "Multi-window view" also improves the user's functionality by running two apps simultaneously. The Nougat update even adds a "Work Mode" perfect for business people and student. Though this mode, users can turn off the phone's working apps whenever they are away from work.

In addition, the Nougat update brings Google's mobile VR platform Daydream compatibility on Moto Z users. The headset is currently available for just $49 at the Google Store, which is discounted by $30 in price. Since Moto Z is the company's first modular smartphone series that comes with Moto Mods, the update also include improvements on Moto Mods support, alongside some bug fixes.

Before installing the Nougat update, users of Moto Z should consider connecting to a Wi-Fi network or a high-speed signal. The OTA update notification can be checked manually by going to Settings > About Phone > System Updates.

Other Moto Z series handsets still running Android 6.0 Marshmallow are expected to receive the Android 7.0 in the future. On another note, Motorola will later release the Nougat update on the Moto Z Play and Z Play Droid Edition devices in March.
