"Big Hero 6," the award-winning animated feature, reigned over China's box-office for the first week of March, garnering around 190 million yuan ($30.3 million) in sales.
According to China Film News, since the film premiered in the country on Feb. 28, it has already grossed 276 million yuan in ticket sales.
The 3D animated film had a record-breaking opening week in China as it earned a whopping 92.9 million yuan ($14.8 million), the biggest for a Disney movie in the country.
"Big Hero 6" is an action-comedy motion picture inspired by the popular Marvel superhero team of the same name. Its plot presents the adventures of a robotic prodigy in his and his friends' quest to fight a masked villain.
Coming behind the Oscar's Best Animated Feature is "The Man from Macao II."
Earning a total of 174 million yuan in the same week, the family comedy film stars Chow Yun-fat. Since it premiered on Feb. 19, the movie has garnered more than 889 million yuan.
"Jupiter Ascending," which stars Mila Kunis and Channing Tatum, landed on the third spot with a total of 149-million-yuan earning since its March 6 opening.
"Wolf Totem" and "Dragon Blade" came on the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
For the same week, the adventure film "Wolf Totem" pulled out 130 million yuan, adding to its total box-office earnings of 633.8 million yuan on March 8.
Meanwhile, the Jackie Chan-starred movie, "Dragon Blade," took in 83 million yuan. Since Feb. 19, the film, which also includes Adrien Brody and John Cusack in its cast, has reached over 700 million yuan in revenue.
