The latest episode of "Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 featured several plot twists that surprised avid fans. Viewers finally discovered Alex's (Justin Chambers) fate and learned the consequence of a power struggle that affected beloved characters at Grey Sloan hospital.
"Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 episode 12 that aired on Feb. 9 introduced several big changes to the long-running ABC medical series. Titled "None of Your Business," here are some of the shocking story developments from the said episode:
Alex's legal battle is over
Avid viewers can now breathe a sigh of relief since Alex will no longer go to prison. After learning the said character's plea bargain plans, DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) dropped the charges against the doctor.
The two doctors also shared a tense moment where Alex finally asked for forgiveness. With DeLuca calling him out on his belligerent attitude and delayed apology, they appear to have arrived at a tenuous truce.
Bailey suspended Meredith
Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) got caught in the middle of a power struggle where Bailey (Chandra Wilson) pushed Richard (James Pickens Jr.) aside to favor Eliza (Marika Dominczyk) as the hospital's residency director. With Meredith refusing to let the new director inside her operating room, Bailey confronted her about it.
The discussion did not end well with Meredith telling Bailey that she does not support Eliza's appointment. Bailey responded by suspending her long-time colleague, demanding Meredith to go home and leave the hospital immediately.
Potential love triangle between Alex, Jo and DeLuca
DeLuca's decision to drop the charges against Alex gave viewers an interesting peek at what could potentially be the said character's growing feelings for Jo (Camilla Luddington). In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Chambers mentioned how DeLuca might have started to realize that Jo might be more than a friend.
Given the touching moment between Alex and Jo where they simply hugged after she learned that he was not going to jail, a potential DeLuca love line will also muddle the two characters' already complicated relationship. Chambers told TVLine that although Alex and Jo never spoke a word during the said scene, it was a symbolic moment that hinted at the status of their relationship.
April taking over Meredith's job
With Meredith in what appears to be an indefinite suspension and unwilling to support Eliza's appointment, Bailey appointed April (Sarah Drew) to take over Meredith's role. To make matters worse, Bailey did not discuss the changes with Meredith and the latter only learned of it through email.
