NetherRealm Studios has unveiled Swamp Thing as their new DC Universe playable character in "Injustice 2." The character has been a top choice in the previous polls from developer Ed Boon himself.

The new "Injustice 2" Swamp Thing highlight video shows off his skills in battle against Robin. As expected, Swamp Thing takes advantage of his special morphing skills which also gives him teleportation capabilities similar to Noob Saibot from "Mortal Kombat."

There are also ranged attacks that Swamp Thing can do due to his ability to elongate parts of his body. He can also grab enemies from afar and smash them to the ground.

Swamp Thing joins the "Injustice 2" characters after the Black Canary reveal which brings the roster up to a total of 19 confirmed playable heroes and villains, Polygon has learned. The humanoid-plant hybrid defender of the Earth is one of the oldest characters in the DC Universe starting off in the early 1970s as a one-off story.

Usually one of the obscured characters in the DC Universe, Swamp Thing has made its way to the mainstream media. Even before the "Injustice 2" reveal, Swamp Thing has already appeared recently in the "Justice League Dark" film and also in "Justice League Action" voiced by "Star Wars" actor Mark Hamill.

Swamp Thing was born after a scientist was involved in a chemical explosion mixed with plants, Nerdist reported. He then became a defender of planet Earth with capabilities to travel large distances through marshes. Unfortunately, he was not a famous character in the recent years until DC decided to give him more exposure now.

"Injustice 2" will have more character reveals in the following weeks leading up to its release. Swamp Thing may be a niche character for players who want a different fighting style altogether.
