A.J. Styles had one of the greatest rookie years in WWE history but he lost the WWE title to John Cena at the Royal Rumble. The latest WWE rumors revealed the real reason why Styles had to drop the championship to Cena.

Styles made his WWE debut at the 2016 Royal Rumble and he immediately made an impact. He had a good feud with Chris Jericho, followed by a couple of amazing matches with Roman Reigns. He then turned heel and had one of the all-time great feuds with Cena.

"The Phenomenal One" topped it off by winning the WWE championship from Dean Ambrose at Backlash. He deserved to enter WrestleMania 33 as the champion but he dropped the title to Cena at the Royal Rumble.

According to Cageside Seats, the real reason why Cena won the title from Styles is for him to put over Bray Wyatt as the WWE champion. Many fans believed that the WWE wanted to give Cena his 16th WWE world title reign but it only lasted for two weeks.

Wyatt ended up outlasting Cena, Styles and three other superstars at Elimination Chamber, per WWE.com. Apparently, the WWE wanted Cena to put over "The Eater of Worlds" as the WWE champion. It worked to perfection since Wyatt is now heading to superstardom.

As for Styles, he deserves to be the WWE champion heading towards WrestleMania 33 for carrying the company when Cena went on his hiatus. Nevertheless, the move was made by the WWE to have Cena put over a much younger talent.

It should be noted that Styles is ten years older than Wyatt and it makes sense that Cena put him over. The Undertaker and Kane are close to retirement and Wyatt is the torch bearer of the company's next great "dark and demonic" character.

Also, it does not hurt Styles since he still has several years left as a top WWE superstar. On the other hand, Cena is officially a part-timer and he needs to put over younger talents for the WWE to survive. The only thing remaining to legitimate Wyatt is for him to successfully defend the WWE title at WrestleMania 33.

Wyatt is expected to face Randy Orton at WrestleMania 33. If he wins that match, he will have big wins over two of the faces of the WWE in the past decade. It will put him over the top as one of the next faces of the company for years to come.
