More theme parks, designed to capture the precious yuan earned by the rising middle class in China, are set to open in the next decade. Among those being built is the first Six Flags-branded park in Shanghai schedule to open in 2019.

It is the first among the numerous parks that Six Flags Entertainment wants to build. Besides Six Flags, the Dalian Wanda Group has begun construction of several Wanda-branded parks designed to rival the Shanghai Disneyland. Nickelodeon is also planning a theme park in Foshan City.

Agreement with Riverside

According to Seeking Alpha, Six Flag Entertainment – the largest regional theme park company in the world – just signed an agreement with Riverside Entertainment Group to construct a second theme park in Bishan, a district of Chongqing. The park is schedule to open in 2020, one year after the first Six Flags-branded theme park and water park in Haiyan, Zhejiang Province near Shanghai would open. Among the attractions of the Zhejiang theme park as roller coasters, live shows, water attractions and more.

“The development of two additional Six Flags-branded parks—a theme park and water park—in Bishan, speaks to our commitment to create memorable experiences for families world-wide,” John Odum, president of Six Flags International Development Company, said. He added, “We are excited to build on this vision in partnership with Riverside Investment Group.”

“Six Flags is the world leader in thrilling entertainment for families and teens,” Tang Jun, Riverside CEO, said. “We look forward to bringing the best and most innovative roller coasters, rides and attractions to visitors throughout China,” Tang continued.

Six Flags Entertainment earns $1.3 billion in revenue from operating 18 parks in the U.S., Mexico and Canada the past 56 years.
