It appears that preparations are now underway for the upcoming release of AMD's 2017 GPU bets that supposedly will be part of the Vega 10 and 11 platforms. New reports indicate that the Radeon 500 series will soon produce the RX 560, RX 580 and the flagship RX 590 card that will serve as AMD's direct answer to NVIDIA's GTX 1080 and 1080 Ti.
Pointing to the latest "Ashes of the Singularity" (AotS) benchmark results that leaked out, WCCFTech reported that there are at least two graphics cards that will ship out from AMD soon. One of them is the RX 560 that the report said is a refresh of the Polaris architecture.
The AotS benchmark indicated that the RX 560 is the entry-level bet of AMD with a performance score of 34.3 on 1080p resolution. Most likely, the card will retail at an affordable price point but the same report did not include any specific pricing.
But the real focus of the benchmark leak is on the RX 580, which is touted as sequel to the Radeon RX 480. The card scored at 72.3fps and when used in a Crossfire set up, will easily deliver a 4K performance at 82.5fps that is synonymous to high-end gaming. The same report said AMD is expected to sell the RX 580 bearing the same introductory price of the RX 480.
However, the RX 580 is not a Vega 10 but a Vega 11 card. The latter is thought to the mid-range GPU card series that AMD will introduce on February 28. As for the Vega 10 bet, it will be the Radeon RX 590 that was not part of the shared benchmark results.
The RX 590 is supposedly the challenger to NVIDIA's GTX 1080 and the upcoming GTX 1080 Ti. It remains to be seen how the AMD card will stack up against the competition but one thing is clear - WCCFTech said NVIDIA is likely to stay ahead for some time until the actual RX 590 capabilities start to shape up.
The assumption is based on the AotS benchmark results that showed any of the RX 560 and 580 will not measure to the NVIDIA GTX 1080, and more so when pitted against the souped up GTX 1080 Ti.
But more details on the Radeon RX 590, which has to be the full-fledged Vega 10 card from AMD, should be forthcoming in the next few weeks as release date of the RX 500 series is said to happen as early as May 2017.
