Huawei is not only showcasing its new P10 and P10 Plus smartphones at this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona but also  its second-generation smartwatch. Watch 2 is set to be unveiled at the gargantuan event that is the world's largest mobile industry exhibit. It is an Android Wear 2.0 wrist wearable with GPS, heart rate sensors, and near field communication (NFC) that works with smartphones.

Watch 2 will be sportier. It will also have some cellular capabilities due to the slot for a nano SIM card. This allows for data connections when the device is out of range of Wi-Fi networks or its paired smartphone. Users can also make and receive phone calls.

Huawei is in fact launching two digital timepieces. They include the Huawei Watch 2 and Huawei Watch 2 Classic. Classic has a 22mm band and looks much like the company's first-gen smartwatch.

The non-classic version looks "sportier." It is made of rubbery plastic, has a 22mm watch band, and includes optional Long-Term Evolution (LTE).

Huawei Watch 2 has a Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor, 768MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, and a 420mAh battery under the watch face. All versions feature water resistance and have a 12.6mm thickness.

The Chinese tech giant's new smart watch seems to be competing with the recently introduced LG Watch Sport. Google co-developed a pair of smartwatches with the Korean corporation.

Huawei's Watch 2 will be available in three colors: black, orange, and gray. It was officially unveiled at a MWC 2017 event on Feb. 26, Sunday, according to VentureBeat.

The Chinese mobile maker's new watch is a follow-up to the Huawei Watch launched in September 2015. Its first-gen wearable was announced at MWC 2015.

Android Wear 2.0 is missing some past key players including Samsung. The mobile OS, however, is still supporting smartwatches from LG, ASUS, Motorola, Sony, Fossil, and Tag Heuer.

In related news, Huawei will also showcase its P10 and P10 Plus smartphones at MWC 2017. The P10 includes a 5.1-inch 1920-pixel x1080-pixel HD display, while the P10 Plus has a bigger 5.5-inch 440p in-plane switching (IPS) display, according to Mac Rumors. Both handsets include a dual-lens 20-megapixel rear camera and a front-facing 12MP camera.
