It seems like "Tokyo Ghoul" Season 3 will remain as a dream for many fans. Just hours after it was reported that a new season of the beloved dark anime is coming, Viz Media clarified that the series is not returning anytime soon.

In a recent sit-down interview with ICv2, Viz Media's Senior Director of Sales and Marketing Kevin Hamric talked about this year's anime projects. He said "Tokyo Ghoul" was extremely popular among teens, young adults, and adults despite its long hiatus.

"Nothing that's been recently released, but 'One Punch Man' is coming back on with season two," Hamric added. "There's going to be another season of 'Tokyo Ghoul' coming shortly. Later in the year, those would be the bigger releases on the anime side."

Fans were joyous of the said news, but Viz Media later set the record straight. Speaking to ANN, as cited by Anime News Network, the company said Harmic either misspoke or was misquoted as there is no new season of "Tokyo Ghoul" on its schedule. Instead, the anime getting a new season was none other than "My Hero Academia," which is scheduled to premiere on April 01.

The news comes as no surprise to many as fans believed "Tokyo Ghoul" Season 3 is unlikely to happen due to the poor reception that the anime series received. It even intensified when a live-action movie adaptation of the dark fantasy manga has been greenlit last June 2016.

In the upcoming film, actor Masataka Kubota plays Ken Kaneki, an average college student who turns into a half-ghoul after he receives an organ transplant from Rize Kamishiro (Yu Aoi). It also stars Fumika Shimizu as Toka Kirishima, Yo Oizumi as Kureo Mado and Nobuyuki Suzuki as Kotaro Amon.

Helmed by Kentaro Hagiwara, the live-action adaptation of "Tokyo Ghoul" is scheduled for release in Japan this summer. Check it out below:
