Lenovo-backed Motorola will continue building its unique Moto Mods this year, after one of its company executives announced a slew of 12 new Moto Mods being prepared for this year's launch. To recall, there are only four mods, which are compatible with the recently launched Moto Z and Moto Z Play smartphones.

According to The Express Tribune, Lenovo General Manager for Middle East Smartphones Sharay Shams shared about the company's investment in Moto Mods and its future.

"It has revolutionized the smartphone industry with innovation which remained stagnant for the last 10 years. The company will introduce 12 Mods this year, which will remain compatible with the phones to be introduced by the company over the next three years," Shams said.

The Lenovo General Manager did not reveal more information about the upcoming modules that customers could expect, although as of this writing, the company is already holding workshops from various developers to expand the Moto Mods' ecosystem.

The modular support catered by Moto Mods was debuted by LG's G5 smartphone, which did not produce lasting impressions with customers. The idea, however, was inherited by Motorola's Moto Z series smartphones in 2016. The ease of swapping modules on Moto Z phones became the selling point for users who need to add some enhancements to their device.

The growing portfolio of modular add-ons includes the Incipico offGRID Power Pack, JBL Soundboost, InstaShare projector and the Hasselblad True Zoom, BGR reported.

The Incipico offGRID Power Pack is pegged at Rs 5,999 and serves as an additional battery life with its 2,220mAh power bank. On the other hand, the JBL Soundboost adds high-quality stereo sound above the phones' own speakers. This sound booster is priced at Rs 6,999.

Another Moto Mods is the InstaShare projector mod that serves as a portable projector that can project a screen of up to 70 inches on a wall or ceiling. This mod is quite expensive at Rs 19,999. Similarly, the Hasselblad True Zoom Moto Mod is also priced at Rs 19,999.

The mod allows users to take pictures with up to 10x optical zoom. It even boosts the smartphones' photographic capabilities by capturing images without reducing image resolution. The mod is accompanied by a physical shutter button, grip handle, a 12-megapixel camera with 10x optical zoom, and xenon flash.
