The CW has confirmed that "Riverdale" Season 2 is happening. The TV series adaptation of the "Archie" comics did not stay very faithful to the comic version and it seems to have paid off as it has been receiving positive results both in terms of ratings and in terms of reviews.

"Riverdale" Season 1 has been growing 78 percent in adults 18-34 and 85 percent in women 18-34 in Live+7 day ratings over L+SD, Deadline has learned. This makes the new series one of the most streamed The CW shows on the network's digital platforms along with "Jane the Virgin," "The Flash" and "The Vampire Diaries."

The first of the 13 episodes of "Riverdale" Season 1 aired on The CW on Jan. 26. The series was developed by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who also executive produces the show with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Jon Goldwater.

It is likely that some cast members from "Riverdale" Season 1 will not make it to Season 2 and new characters will be added. However, it is very likely that whatever changes are introduced in Season 2, Archie Andrews (K.J, Apa), Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart), Jughead Jones (Cole Sprouse) and Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) will stay.

Now that Jughead has been outed as asexual and he even kissed Betty in one of the episodes, viewers speculate that the two will be introduced as a romantic couple in "Riverdale" Season 2. Adding Archie into the equation will even make it more interesting.

After the "Riverdale" Season 2 announcement, Aguirre-Sacasa gave fans what they can look forward to in an interview with Collider. He said that very early on, he thought there was something really interesting about the fact that Archie's two best friends would start a relationship.

This would be unexpected to Archie and he would have to wrestle with it a little bit in the way he would lose both Betty, his best gal friend, and Jughead, his best guy friend, Aguirre-Sacasa said. He emphasized that Apa's character is the only common denominator between the characters played by Sprouse and Reinhart.

"It is always good when it has that 'David Lynchian Twin Peaks Riverdale' twist with something sinister curdling at the edges, or there's a really dark shadow underneath the story that is a twist or a different riff on it," Aguirre-Sacasa noted. "All of that is what we're taking into Season 2, in terms of the big over-arching mystery and the character relationship stuff, as well."

Joining Apa, Reinhart, Sprouse and Mendes in the main cast of "Riverdale" Season 1 are Marisol Nichols as Hermione Lodge, Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom, Ashleigh Murray as Josephine "Josie" McCoy, Madchen Amick as Alice Cooper and Luke Perry as Frederick "Fred" Andrews.
