Following the massive success of her critically-acclaimed films "Hidden Figures" and "Moonlight," singer and actress Janelle Monae is set to become the next big star. She is reportedly the current frontrunner for the role of Domino in "Deadpool 2."

That Hashtag Show (via Screen Rant) reported that Monae is the leading candidate to play Domino, a.k.a Neena Thurman in "Deadpool 2." Monae star is currently on the rise. Her first two acting roles were in "Hidden Figures" and "Moonlight," the latter having been awarded Best Picture by the Academy Awards. It is no question that Fox is looking at adding more star power to "Deadpool," and Monae certainly fits the bill.

According to Movie Web, "Scandal" actress Kerry Washington also reportedly did a screen test for the role of Domino.

Domino plays an essential part in "Deadpool 2," especially in connection with Cable. Domino is a lethal mercenary whose main power is altering mutant probability. She is also Cable's partner and love interest. After debuting in "Deadpool 2," Domino will be part of the "X-Force" film Fox is planning to create.

"The fact that they're putting Cable and Domino on the film is going to expand the Deadpool universe in a way that the fans absolutely expect," "Deadpool" comic book creator Rob Liefeld said. "They want it to go. They want those characters interacting with Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool. The casting of Cable and Domino is going to blow people's minds."

On the other hand, the role of Cable has not been filled up yet, but there have been many names associated with the role. Earlier this year, Pierce Brosnan generated buzz after he was photographed with Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds. With the latter two already part of the mutant universe at Fox, it was presumed that they were tagging Brosnan along for a project.

More recently, Russell Crowe's name was attached to the role after Liefeld told him on Twitter to audition for the role of Cable. During the exchange, Crowe expressed interest in applying for the role and said that if Reynolds wanted him for the role then he can certainly find a way to do it.
