Former football star David Beckham has made a successful crossover from top athlete to media practitioner without losing his link with the world of sports.

After he was cast by Guy Richie for a speaking role in the 2016 film “Knights of the Round Table,” David Beckham is now the presenter of CETV, a Chinese TV station. One of the shows he is handling is a series that would focus on soccer skills for youthful players and fans with the aim of encouraging young Chinese to take up the sports of soccer where David Beckham once ruled as top player of English team Manchester United.

He is filming the episodes in Guangzhou amid growing public interest in soccer. The push to develop the sport came from Chinese President Xi Jinping who is known to be a big soccer fan. Besides encouraging more Chinese to learn and play soccer, or football in the U.S., he wants the performance of China’s national soccer team to further improve, China Plus reported.

Manchester United, where David Beckham ruled, is the second more popular European soccer team in China, based on social media following. The list is headed by Bayern Munich, and then after Manchester United comes Liverpool, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Barcelona, AC Milan, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.

Family Dinner

Although the TV presenter is currently back in London where his family is based, his links with China continues since he was spotted leaving China Tang in the British capital after he had a meal with his kids and wife Victoria Beckham. He was even spotted hugging his son Romeo and kissing the teen on his head, Mirror reported.

The Beckhams ate at China Tang to celebrate the March 4 18th birthday of Brooklyn. Besides Romeo, there was also his siblings Cruz and Harper.
