The next Google mobile platform is currently making news online, even with Android Nougat OS still coming on several Android units. Amid the rumors about the OS's features, the Android 8.0 OS is expected to be revealed on Google's I/O 2017 developer festival on May 17 to 19.
The Android 8.0 operating system (OS) is generally rumored to be named as "Android Oreo," which is based on Google's traditional naming system after desserts, Pocket-lint reported. To recall, the company has released operating system under the names Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, KitKat, Lollipop, Marshmallow, and Nougat.
Aside from the placeholder, several rumors on its possible features and release date were released online. According to reports, the next major update on Google's upcoming software is on new "assistive features" for users.
According to NDTV, Google Android 8.0 OS might feature the "Copy Less" feature. This option improves the process of copying details. Instead of copy and pasting information, users will get the text as a suggestion.
"[If] you and a friend are having a conversation in a chat about where to eat dinner and you find a good restaurant in the Yelp app, when you go back to your conversation and type "it's at," one automatically generated suggestion in Gboard would be the restaurant's address," NDTV noted.
Another rumored feature is an option that appeared on Apple's iOS. The responsive text in Apple's messaging give users the ability to tap on an address, phone number, or date in a message and open the respective apps automatically. Now on the Android Oreo OS, the feature could be released as an updated mode on Google's standard-issue Gboard virtual keyboard app or on the Android software.
Gesture recognition might also make it on the Android O software. Reports suggest that Google might add finger gestures to trigger actions in Android. For instance, users could open a short list of contact just by drawing the letter "C" on the phone's screen.
As of now, the mentioned features are not yet confirmed to be added on the final version of Android O. To refresh, features that appeared on the Android Nougat firmware include split-screen mode, ability to reply to texts from notifications, and an update to the Doze battery saver.
Since Android Nougat took its first appearance on the developer preview last 2016 in advance of Google I/O, it is highly believed that the Android O might be revealed at the same conference this May. As per tradition, Google phones and tablets are always the first to get new operating system updates, and security updates are provided for three years following the device's release.
