Supergirl's executive producer Andrew Kreisberg stated in an interview that a superman spin-off is a possibility but sad to say it won't be happening anytime soon. During the recent screening of the show, Kreisberg told reporters that they are working more on Supergirl since it is their flagship.

The writers and producers are working on establishing the character of Supergirl first before introducing her famous cousin Superman in the scene. Superman taking the thunder of Supergirl is definitely not the main goal of the writers and producers.

Furthermore, Kreisberg stated that the show is still on its second season. There are still a lot of things to do, with the production recently moved from Los Angeles to Canada, and trying to pin down every bit of the series. Splitting their focus now to start thinking about another TV show is quite untimely, Cinema Blend reported. However, there is no need to feel bum about it, as the writers and producers are making ways to put Superman back in the screen with Supergirl without taking away the limelight from her.

Moreover, Tyler Hoechlin who played as Superman on the show says that the very reason for Superman's appearance is merely a supporting character to the main protagonist: which is Supergirl portrayed by Melissa Benoist.

Hoechlin says that Superman is only acting as a mentor, a friend, and a cousin. There was definitely no intention in making the show about Superman. He is just there to help build up Supergirl, supporting her. The role of Superman is not to overshadow her and make her feel that she's not capable of doing anything that he could do.

In addition to that, Kreisberg wanted to show a different side of what most of the viewers' think about Superman. In the show, Superman was specially designed as someone who has already been in the business of saving the planet for decades. In which it is different from the famous Christopher Reeve movies, Man of Steel or Lois & Clark wherein Superman is seen to be the hero who is still starting out, Comic Book reported.

Continue getting hooked with Supergirl as the show will be airing on The CW every Mondays at 7pm.
