During the trip of U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, China and the U.S. reached a mutual agreement with no conflict and mutual respect. This was revealed by Hua Chunying, a spokesperson for China's foreign ministry.
She said, "This spirit is the correct way for the two major powers to get along with each other."
The move was not welcomed by critics in the U.S., who considered it as a victory for China and a loss for Washington.
Hua said that the agreement is beneficial to both countries and not just a win for China. She said, "This cannot be taken as someone's triumph."
She added, "The principle of no conflict, no confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation has been a good experience for the stable growth of China-U.S. ties in recent years, and is worth continuing."
The spokesperson said that the China-U.S. mutual agreement will mean that China will make more efforts to enhance communication and cement trust with the U.S. The good relationship between the two countries has a new beginning to create progress.
Hua said, "China is willing to enhance communication and understanding with the United States, cement trust, properly handle disputes, expand cooperation in bilateral, regional and multilateral levels and boost the new progress of bilateral ties at a new starting point."
However, a day after the announcements were made, a U.S. bomber was seen illegally flying inside China's zone in the East China Sea.
The U.S. refuses to acknowledge the air defense identification zone (ADIZ) or China's claim on the East China Sea.
The Americans assert that the zone is covered by international territory. The F-1 bomber plane was flying near South Korea, according to the U.S. Pacific Air Forces.
The pilots of the bombers told Chinese controllers that they were flying in international waters and did not change their flight path.
