"Attack on Titan" Season 2 has unveiled its highly anticipated trailer, which means fans are only inches closer to reuniting with the popular animated series.

Three years after the last episode of "Attack on Titan" Season 1 aired, FUNimation has unleashed the official trailer for the new season of the epic series. The trailer shows how the Titans have evolved and grown more monstrous than ever.

As per the official synopsis of the second season (via CBR), Eren Jeager uses his powers as he "fights for humanity's freedom" as they face the monsters that threaten his home. After his bittersweet victory against the Female Titan in the Season 1, Eren finds no time to rest as a horde of titans make their way for Wall Rose.

In "Attack on Titan" Season 2 mankind continues its fight for survival in the war against the titans. With the titans already having broken through the first wall, Eren, Mikasa, Armin and the rest are on the front line to prevent the titans from breaching the second wall.

According to Yahoo TV, the second season will introduce new characters, including the Beast Titan. The Beast Titan is said to be even bigger than the Colossal Titan in the first season. It also has developed intelligence and the ability to command other titans to attack. The trailer also shows one sinister-looking titan attacking another titan.

Reports also claim that "Attack on Titan" Season 2 will feature new human characters such as Captain Kenny Ackerman, Uri Reiss, Rod Reiss and­ Freida Reiss. With this, the story is expected to delve deeper into the history of the titans and the creation of the walls that is defending mankind.

Much of this history will involve the Reiss family, to whom the First King passed the legacy of building the walls and rebuilding human civilization. Kenny Ackerman, however, is a military police involved in the attempted murder of Uri and Rod Reiss.

According to Anime News Network, the "Attack on Titan" Season 2 Blu-ray Disc and DVD will feature a VR movie and will include specially designed goggles.

The first episode of "Attack on Titan" Season 2 will premiere on April 1.
