"Alien: Covenant" will delve deeper into Sir Ridley Scott's "Alien" movies. "Alien: Covenant," which is the follow up of "Prometheus," will feature two surviving characters from the latter as well as introduce new ones. Scott recently revealed the fates of Dr. Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and David (Michael Fassbender), as well as the future of the "Alien" movies.

In recall, Elizabeth and David are the only two survivors of the Prometheus crew. Although they will not be a part of the mission in "Covenant," they will still play important roles. When asked how Rapace's Elizabeth would return in the sequel, Scott told Fandango, "Not fully, but in a way. She was integral to what David carried out later."

"Alien: Covenant" will trace the origins of the Xenomorphs in the film. According to Scott, the movie will answer the who and the why in the story. Definitely, the movie will be a lot gorier and smarter than "Prometheus."

At one of the clips previewed at the SXSW, it was revealed that David gives Christopher (Billy Crudup) a tour of his workshop where he's been genetically engineering creatures of his own. He has developed a fascination with aliens following the events of Prometheus. David then tells Christopher that he needs a human host to complete the birth of the eggs he's developing. Naturally, Christopher is the chosen host. This reveals that David is responsible for creating the Xenomorphs.

It came as a surprise to many when it was revealed that "Prometheus" is in fact a prequel to the "Alien" movies. When asked how many more movies he's going to make in the franchise, Scott revealed that he'll continue to make the films as long as there's a need for them.

"There will be another one before we kind of literally and logically, clockwise, back into the rear back head of [the original] 'Alien.'" As to the prequel series' timeline, it will be "Prometheus," "Awakening" and "Covenant."

"If you really want a franchise, I can keep cranking it for another six," Scott told the Sydney Morning Herald (via Polygon). Scott has finished filming the movie that follows "Covenant." He hopes to start production for the next film in 2017.
