Michael Fassbender's David is arguably a smart and complex villain in Ridley Scott's "Prometheus" and he will be back in "Alien: Covenant." The next time viewers see David, he will have developed at great lengths from his small beginnings in the first film.

In recall, David was responsible for the series of catastrophic events in "Prometheus" that led to the birth of the familiar-looking aliens known as Deacon. David infected Dr. Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and her partner Charlie Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green) with black goo. David caused Elizabeth to get impregnated by Charlie, giving birth to the Deacon. Although David was beheaded by the end of "Prometheus," he will be back in "Alien: Covenant."

"It's been ten years since we last saw him, without any maintenance. So those human qualities have sort of gathered momentum a little bit, I suppose," Fassbender told Collider about the changes the audience will be seeing in his character. "They're as much a part of him now as his synthetic qualities."

In the sequel, David keeps himself busy in a lab where he works on his experiments. He will have found a home in an Engineer temple called The Hall of Heads. He will still show a great interest in how things work and the concept of creation.

From the "Alien: Covenant" trailer alone, fans will get a sense of how invested Fassbender is in creation. In one scene, he introduces Christopher (Billy Crudup) to his lab and presents his collection of genetically-engineered creatures, The Verge reported. David then takes Christopher to a chamber where there a four eggs that looks like the ones in the original "Alien" movie. It becomes evident that the creatures from the 1979 movie weren't not the result of natural selection, but where in fact genetically-engineered. And it appears David played a crucial hand in that.

Not only is Fassbender playing David, but he's also portraying a next-generation android called Walter. Unlike David, Walter is stripped off of any human characteristics. The new character is described as "very straightforward, logical synthetic."

"Alien: Covenant" will be in theaters on May 19.
