"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" is the fifth film in the "POTC" franchise, but is said to be different from its predecessors. According to co-director Joachim Ronning, they made a few changes to the film in order to give the sea-faring journey a fresh twist for the fans.
"Pirates of the Caribbean 5" will introduce a younger version of Jack Sparrow, then under the tutelage of Armanda Salazar (Javier Bardem). Due to his own personal gain, Sparrow caused the death of Salzar and his crew. In the present time, a resurrected Salazar and his army of the undead vows to seek revenge against Sparrow and every existing pirate.
One of the prominent changes in the film is in the characters. "Pirates of the Caribbean 5" will introduce two new young characters, one of which is the son of Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann, both of whom are said to be returning to the franchise after their absence in "Strangers Tides."
"I play a guy called Henry who is a soldier in the Royal Navy. At the beginning of the film, he is locked up by his own men for trying to warn them of an evil coming their way," Brenton Thwaites said of his character Henry Turner, via Just Jared.
Kaya Scodelario plays Carina Smyth, the only person who believes Henry and sets out to help him. They later realize that they are actually after the same treasure and work together to retrieve it.
Ronning told EW that "The Curse of the Black Pearl," the first film in the "Pirates" franchise is his favorite because it reminded him of the movies he grew up with. "It's scary, it's funny, and most of all it's a comedy, but with great heart," he told EW and added that these were elements he wanted to recreate in "Dead Men Tell No Tales."
One of the changes Ronning made in the fifth film are the roles of supporting characters. Instead of focusing the limelight on Sparrow only, he put more emphasis on the supporting characters that the audience can root for.
"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" premieres in theaters this May.
