"Transformers: The Last Knight" is heating things up for the war between humans and the Transformers. Things appear to take a darker turn for the humans as it is speculated that they will lose their strongest ally in this war-Optimus Prime.
Paramount Pictures has been teasing fans with "Transformers: The Last Knight" promotional materials, the latest being the clip presented by Mark Wahlberg at the 2017 MTV Movie and TV Awards. The trailers feature the same explosive scenes and metal against metal action sequences between alien robots. One scene in the trailer that got people talking was the one where Optimus Prime and Bumblebee are fighting one another.
If you aren't already familiar with the "Transformers" franchise, Optimus Prime and Bumblebee are the strongest of allies. They have stood by each other since Shia LaBeouf-era "Transformers." They've rarely ever had an argument, that's why seeing them clash has piqued moviegoers' interest. Is Optimus Prime the new villain in "Transformers: The Last Knight."
According to Deadline, "Transformers: The Last Knight" plot synopsis reads that Optimus Prime will go rogue in the film. This isn't a good sign, since the humans are at war with alien robots. This leaves Cade Yeager (Wahlberg) to team up with Bumblebee and seek the help of Sir Edmund Burton (Anthony Hopkins) to learn about the history of the Transformers on Earth and how to defeat them.
Aside from the odd fact that he's not available to help the humans like he used to, Optimus Prime is also sporting new colors in "Transformers: The Last Knight." In one teaser, Optimus Prime appears to have violet eyes. His original eye color has always been blue, the same with the other human-friendly Autobots.
According to Cheat Sheet, it's possible that Optimus Prime will be corrupted in the fifth film and will go against the humans and his Autobot friends. Another theory is that this isn't Optimus Prime, and is in fact his doppelgänger Nemesis Prime. The latter is a clone of Optimus and possess the same strengths and powers as him. The only difference is that Nenemsis Prime does not have any sense of morality.
"Transformers: The Last Knight" premieres in theaters on June 21.
