It was October 2016 when the last episode of the second season of "Scream" entertained the viewers. Since the MTV series has been renewed for a third installment, recent reports claim that "Scream" Season 3 will be a fresh version of the two previous installments.

According to Collider, the rating generated by "Scream" Season 2 was not impressive. It was said that the second installment's rating was only fifty percent of the total views that the first season generated. It was also cited that although "Scream" was renewed for a third installment, its number of episodes went down to six, wherein the first season of the series offered 10 episodes while the second season aired 14 episodes.

On the other note, it is not only the number of episodes that is new about the show. It is said that the American horror television series is also changing a lot of things, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The publication noted that "Scream" Season 3 is taking a U-turn with new cast members, new producers and a new location. It was said that one of the main reasons of this bold move is due to the fact that the second installment failed to acquire enough audience. In regards to the new showrunners, it has been confirmed that Brett Mathews of "Supernatural" and "The Vampire Diaries" together with Queen Latifah, Yaneley Arty and Shakim Compere are the newly added executive producers.

Meanwhile, the same publication noted that the existing executive producers of the series, namely Harvey and Bob Weinstein, Cathy Konrad, Marianne Maddalena, Liz Gateley, and Tony Di Santo, will continue as the series' showrunners. In addition, the same publication cited that no one from the original cast members will return in the upcoming "Scream" Season 3. It was also said that the names of the new cast members may be unveiled soon.

There is no official release date yet for "Scream" Season 3, but it is expected to air within this year.
