Elon Musk, Chief Executive Officer of Tesla Motors, has announced that they are planning to release a software update that could end range anxiety for their Model S cars, according to ABC News.
Owners of electric cars fear that they will run out of juice before reaching their destination. They prefer playing it safe and recharge before reaching the upper limit of their battery's range, or prefer to take gas-powered cars on a long road trip instead of Teslas. The Tesla Model S sedan achieves over 300 miles per charge, depending on choice of battery and style of driving.
The electric vehicle maker Tesla Motors will announce the solution as well as more information about how the software update works in a press conference that will be held on Thursday.
California-based Tesla Motors is also working to increase its network of Supercharger stations. Most of Tesla's charging stations are located in Western Europe and in the United States. The electric car maker concentrates the Supercharger stations on important highways such as the highways connecting Las Vegas Los Angeles and San Francisco.
TechCrunch noted that the update could better distribute the existing power in Tesla S vehicles, or provide an improved way to handle existing limitations on car battery technology. The change could benefit all Tesla owners. Elon Musk said in a tweet that the change will affect entire Tesla Model S fleet.
In January of this year, the California-based company released an over-the-air software update that made the P85D car significantly faster.
