A screenshot of the Playstation Network television show "Powers" revealed that players might be able to video chat on the PS4 platform but Sony confirms that no such feature is coming to the console anytime soon.

Sony's Playstation 4 console has received multiple feature that gamers loved but video chat is not one of them. There were no rumors of them until a video popped up at IGN that showed a man talking to another woman through a video call.

It was confirmed by a small box that appeared on the lower left corner of the screen where the woman was responding to his queries. This entire conversation took place inside the world of "Powers", a television show on PS4 but being in a fictional environment, it was assumed earlier that it could simply be an imagination of the creators.

The company has confirmed the same in a quick press statement. Their spokesperson said, "We don't have any announcement to make. There is no video chat coming to PS4 at the moment. The visuals shown in Powers show is just a PIP mock-up feature that allowed those characters to communicate through their television. It doesn't imply anything about PS4 getting that functionality."

Players are interested in an in-game video chat feature but a lot of technical tweaks has to go under the hood to make this possible, says Gamespot. The hardware power that PS4 has should be split up in order to enable two different activities at once, which is not an easy task unless Sony decides to dedicate all their resources to make this a possibility. As confirmed by the company, the feature is not going to get announced for now but it is a possibility in the near future, as the console moves further into its lifecycle.
