Tesla Motors is planning to make autonomous driving possible in summer, but many are very skeptical about the Palo Alto company's plan, labeling them as unrealistic and misleading.

The Model S maker will be launching its new Model X electric vehicle along with a new "Autopilot" driving system that promises semi-autonomous driving.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that the said system will be launching within the next three months.

Musk also made a very ambitious promise to autonomous driving fans and for those who are waiting for the new Model S "D" variants and the new Model X this summer, according to Digital Trends.

"We can basically go between San Francisco and Seattle without the driver doing anything," said Musk.

However, the PayPal and SpaceX founder also said that Tesla's autonomous driving plan will take small steps at first.

In addition, many are still skeptical that Tesla finally achieved autonomous driving.

Karl Brauer, an analyst from Kelley Blue Book, said that the technology for self-driving cars is still not here. Additionally, the existing legislations restrict Tesla from advancing too far with its plans.

Brauer said that there is a reason why competing carmakers have not yet arrived at autonomous driving. Besides the technological obstacles, there are also legal reasons that would make it difficult for carmakers to progress, Highlight Press reported.

For instance, Musk warned that the new semi-autonomous system can only be used inside private property because of the rules and regulations in California.

Brauer also said that Tesla's summer 2015 timeframe is nothing but unrealistic. He expects the technology to be available in "a couple of years" instead of Tesla's promise of three months.
