Climate change has been a controversial topic over the years as many are debating whether it is real or not. Now, a top weather scientist from China is saying that it is a major threat all over the world.

Zhang Guogang told the Chinese local state-run local media Xinhua News Agency that there would be inevitable damage to China due to climate change.

Guogang said that the effects can range from longer droughts, reduced harvests amount, and the delay of key construction projects due to thunderstorms and flooding.

The Chinese scientist said that their government is aware of the problem, but is not interested in raising awareness from its citizens, according to the American Register.

However, China did take several measures to battle climate change, including cutting down on greenhouse gas emissions and limiting the production hours of pollution-heavy factories.

"To face the challenges from past and future climate change, we must respect nature and live in harmony with it. We must promote the idea of nature and emphasize climate security," said Guogang in a statement.

Guogang also said that global warming poses a serious threat against China's major infrastructures such as the Three Gorges Dam, which is the largest power station in the world in terms of capacity.

The Chinese scientist is not the only one worried about the effects of climate change. Weather officials from the country have started giving away weather-related materials in an effort to raise public awareness regarding the crisis.

The China Meteorological Administration said that climate change may bring about droughts, floods and extreme low and high temperatures by the end of the current century, Science Recorder reported.

Exponential growth in population and wealth are expected to amplify the said effects in the following years.
