"The X-Files" is coming back! David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will return for a six-episode Fox miniseries as FBI supernatural investigators, Mulder and Scully.
Chris Carter, the creator of the cult classic, has already agreed to return for the new episodes, whose production will start in June. Anderson tweeted "Mulder...Are you ready?" on Tuesday.
Vince Gilligan launched his career as a TV writer with "The X-Files," and later created the widely popular series "Breaking Bad," according to The Daily Beast. Bryan Cranston, the protagonist of "Breaking Bad," had a role in one Season 6 episode of "The X-Files."
Carter shared that Duchovny and Anderson were very interested in the project. He explained that now is the ideal time for the show to return to TV, since the world has become much "stranger," according to CNET.
The schedule of the new season of "The X-Files" has not been set yet.
"The X-Files" first aired on Fox in September 1993, focusing on Fox "Spooky" Mulder, an FBI agent obsessed with supernatural activity; and Danna Scully, his doubting partner. The worldwide hit had a nine-season run, collecting 16 Emmy Awards. Its series finale was in 2002.
It seems that there is a trend in reviving old TV series as "Twin Peaks," a similar two-season 1990s TV show that follows the murder investigation by an FBI Special Agent, could also return to TV in a new series. However, the show's creator David Lynch has said there is no confirmation yet.
