The odds are great a new Star Trek television series will make it to TV screens worldwide in the next few years.
The Star Trek reboot will feature the iconic crew of the famous starship, USS Enterprise, with new actors taking on the roles of the legendary Captain James T Kirk, Mr. Spock and Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy, among others.
The new TV series will be produced by CBS, which owns the rights to Star Trek.
Rumors have it the new series might really get going after the upcoming Star Trek movie, Star Trek 3, hits theaters in the U.S. in July 2016, just in time for the 50th anniversary of the original TV series.
Star Trek 3 will be directed by Fast Five's Justin Lin with JJ Abrams as executive producer.
Simon Pegg, who reprises his role of Montgomery "Scotty" Scott in the new movie and who was also its co-writer, was quoted as saying Star Trek 3 will be closer in spirit to the original TV show that first aired in 1966 but that only ran for three seasons, said the Guardian.
All these indications seem to point to a definite go for the new Star Trek TV series. Rumors are the original Captain Kirk, William Shatner, will cameo in Star Trek 3.
Revisiting Star Trek's roots was the pitch made a few years ago by sci-fi TV legend. Michael Straczynski and Dark Skies' Bryce Zabel, according to Nerdist. Media reports said the duo will probably take charge to launching the new series.
But Straczynski and Zabel apparently have competition as the guys that will create the new TV series. Other reports say CBS could be interested in hiring the team behind Star Trek: Federation to do the job. Part of this team is X-Men franchise leader Bryan Singer; Mission Imposible: Rogue Nation director Christopher McQuarrie; producer Robert Burnett and writer Geoffrey Thorne.
Adding more credibility to an upcoming TV series is the success of the recent Star Trek movies directed by J.J. Abrams. Insiders said these box office hits have made the new TV series all but certain.
Besides, its Star Trek's 50th anniversary in 2016. A new TV series will be a great way to honor sci-fi TV's most famous franchise.
