Latest reports iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus release date will take place in the second half of this year alongside a cheaper version dubbed iPhone 6C.

According to Taiwanese media source DigiTimes, Apple will release three different phones this year. iPhone 6S and 6S Plus are purported to be the direct successors of the current iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. The tech giant will also release an inexpensive smartphone with 4 inch screen display and a follow up to the cheap iPhone 5C.

The report added that the handsets will be equipped with LTPS panels and Corning Gorilla Glass for the screen as well as to pack some features, specifically NFC and fingerprint scanning technologies.

Apple-centric website Macrumors elaborated that the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus will most likely retain their screen sizes, 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches, respectively. Moreover, the smartphones will include killer features like A9 processor, 4 GB of RAM, iOS 9 with software features such as Car Play, Apple Watch, HealthKit, and Apple Pay as well as improved Touch ID fingerprint sensor.

Meanwhile, iPhone 6C is reported to sport a 4-inch screen display with slightly less specs and features compared to the 6S series. The cheaper iPhone will pack A8 processor.

On the other hand, tech website VentureBeat stated that a "special" iPhone 7 will arrive next year with various models, including a variant that targets emerging markets in Asia and Latin America. There are rumors that the new iPhone will pack Intel chipset dropping the A series processor. The Cupertino-based company has not commented on the rumors.
